Mike was a deep sea diver and part of Jacques Cousteau’s team. Once spending 47 days, 230m under water. World travel as a Porsche race car driver and NZ champion and three crazy stints in jails. What a story!

 

But Mike revealed towards the end that he's most affected by bowel cancer having lost 7 members of his immediate family.

27 May 2026 - Brett Cammell

During 40+ years at TVNZ, Brett made 72 1-hour documentaries with several winning international awards, including the New York Film Festival.

 

Captured by rebels in Sudan, spoofed the art community and we saw one doco can bring tears to his eyes.

 

Throw in maxi yacht racing and near disaster. Now there's a story.

29 April 2026 - Amy Cragg

The Cragg name has been in Picton for 150 years. Amy took us through her top level sporting career in rugby and netball, to being a young mum and personal struggles.

 

But it was what she's learnt from her battle with cancer that has really shaped her and how she manages herself and staff as a large employer in Picton with Oxley's.

Nov 2025 - Dave Baker

A life at the tip of Queen Charlotte Sound has been full of adventure; arresting poachers, rescuing boaties and coordinating the rescue of people from the Mikhail Lermontov.

 

The story moved at question time to over fishing and environmental concerns. But throughout was the importance of his family through all of this.

Oct 2025 - Richard Macalister

A big ocean sailing story of a young man who took a risk and made it onto Sir Peter Blake's '81-'82 round the world race team, leading to a 20 year professional sailing career, includng 11 Sydney to Hobarts.

 

The third of four generations in the same sounds bay, Richard, with his wife, Isabel, now lead a yachting supply business, established in 1988.
